International Women’s Club donates fundraising proceeds for social projects

Ten charity organisations in Moldova will benefit from grants provided by the International Women’s Club of Moldova (IWCM), for the implementation of social projects. The total sum of the assistance is USD 8,500. The funds were raised during the 2006 Winter Bazaar. Sara Kirby, IWCM president and the wife of the US Ambassador in Moldova, said at the ceremony of awarding grant certificates that the beneficiaries were selected following a competition involving 34 applicants. The winners proved to have good managerial skills and creativity. The grants were offered for supporting underprivileged categories of population. The charity organisations will open day nurseries for single mothers’ children and will set up playing grounds in villages. Also, several culture houses will be repaired. Drugs and hygiene articles will be purchased for convicted women and their new-borns. According to the president of the IWCM Grants Committee, Kyra Buchko, for one of the beneficiaries – the Association of Blind People from Moldova, the money will be raised at another charity event, scheduled for May 11 at the “Moldexpo” International Centre. The Association intends to purchase artificial eyes for children to facilitate their integration into the society. The club was started in April 1997. IWCM has managed to collect over USD 90,000 for charity purposes since.
