The international investment position of the Republic of Moldova on September 30, 2023 was -US$6.452.75 billion (or -41.2% compared to GDP), with the net debt balance extending by 4.3% compared with the end of 2022, IPN reports, with reference to the National Bank of Moldova.

According to preliminary data of the NBM, the position of external financial assets totaled US$ 6.855.49 billion, up 5.4% since the beginning of the year, while of liabilities – US$13.308.24 billion, up by 4.9%. The ratio of the position of external assets to the ratio of liabilities was 51.5% (+0.2 percentage points compared to December 31, 2022).

According to the central bank, the position of financial assets was influenced upwards by other changes (US$1.218.78bn), while the negative flow in the balance of payments (-US$840.31m), the change in prices of financial instruments (US$ -16.95m) and the fluctuation of exchange rates chosen for original currencies against the US dollar (-US$12.28m) influenced the position of assets downwards.
