International donors encourage Moldovan companies to employ social responsibility practices
An international conference that will aim at stimulating the entrepreneurs, nongovernmental organizations and media to work together to promote social responsibility practices is set to take place in Chisinau.
According to a communiqué released by organizers, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept whereby organizations consider the interests of society by taking responsibility for the impact of their activities on customers, employees, shareholders, communities and the environment in all aspects of their operations.
This obligation is seen to extend beyond the statutory obligation to comply with legislation, the communiqué says.
According to a report prepared by Expert-grup in 2005, the CSR practices are characteristic of the multinational companies, not yet of the smaller, local companies.
The conference is scheduled for November 8 and is organized by the Representative Office of Eurasia Foundation in Moldova, the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova and the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova. The conference will centre on the concept of CRS, with emphasis on the current CSR practices used in the country.
