On April 22, the international community celebrates the Earth Day or the anniversary of modern environment movement’s birth. According to the specialists, a problem the human race confronts with at present is the pollution of the environment, which affects the health of millions. A series of diseases are the effect of pollution and lack of essential resources, such as water, clean air, healthy food, hygienic living conditions. Millions of dollars are spent for fighting the diseases caused by pollution, as well as for covering the losses produced by the disasters occurred due to the lack of care for the environment. In all the countries, on Earth Day, the organisations concerned with environmental protection, the schools and other institutions organise different activities, such as practical demonstrations with ecologic transport, hygiene actions, seminars, debates on ecologic topics, movie shows, presentations and contests, On this occasion, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Moldova organised a national assembly which brought together environment NGOs. The participants discussed the present state of affairs and the quality of the environment, the ways to improve the ecologic situation, preserve the biological diversity, implement practical activities on the protection of the environment. Previously, the Public Organisations “SalvaEco” organised on this occasion an ecologic contest of drawings, entitled “What do we offer to the Earth?!” Responding to wide spread environmental degradation, United States Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin called for an Environmental Teach-in or Earth Day to be held on April 22, 1970. Over 20 million people participated and it is now observed each year by more than 500 million people and national governments in 175 countries. For those who celebrate the Earth Day, an international network was created (Earth Day Network). It offers the participants the possibility of organising joint actions, offering materials and ecologic education opportunities.
