Internal inquiry into road accident involving consul in Frankfurt launched

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration started an internal inquiry to establish the degree of culpability of Moldova’s consul general in Germany’s Frankfurt Dumitru Socolan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca said in a news conference, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We will finish the inquiry and will decide if the general consul is to be recalled or punished administratively,” said the minister. Last week, Dumitru Socolan was involved in a traffic accident. The press reported that he drove a Mercedes at the highest speed allowed on that road segment - 80 km/h, and did not manage to make a turn. Dumitru Socolan was named consul general of Moldova in Frankfurt in September 2009. He had also held this post in 2001-2005, during the Communist rule.
