The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends the citizens to secure in advance backup lighting sources, such as functional flashlights, additional batteries or lamps that use rechargeable batteries, given the risk of power cuts, IPN reports.
In a response to an inquiry made by IPN, the Ministry said that the use of portable or solar LED lamps is recommended and warned about the need to monitor open fires or candles to prevent fires.
The authorities urge the legal entities to streamline electricity consumption: reduce the interior lighting of public and commercial buildings by at least 30%, disconnect shop windows and decorative lighting, as well as limit the operation of escalators during particular periods of time. In addition, companies with large energy processes will have to reconfigure their working hours to minimize energy consumption during peak hours.
The Ministry encourages the citizens to inform themselves from official sources about any scheduled or unplanned power cut. The authorities will transmit information through the official pages of public institutions, but also on the radio, if access to the internet or social networks is limited.
Also, all intervention services are ready to respond quickly to emergency situations in case of power cuts, and the Ministry’s subdivisions work continuously 24/7.
The authorities ensured a stable electricity supply regime through additional imports from ENTSO-E, with a minimum guaranteed capacity of 315 MW at the border with Romania. Depending on the time of the day, Moldova can additionally import 20 MW to 115 MW, using unexploited transmission capacity at other borders with ENTSO-E.
The Government also approved a plan of measures for the 2024-2025 heating season, which includes scenarios for the supply of electricity and natural gas, as well as alternative solutions for supplying institutions and the population in case of power cuts.
