Interior Ministry to publish data about police officers reinstated by court decisions

The Ministry of the Interior in several weeks will make public information about the police officers who were dismissed and then reinstated in their posts by court decisions. Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean has told Radio Free Europa that over 100 police officers have been so far this year punished for acts of corruption, abuse, lack of discipline and other violations, but a part of them were reinstated by court decisions.

“The police, the Ministry of the Interior cannot make comment and state their viewpoints on court decisions as these decisions represent the law. Over the next weeks, we will make known the cases tried by courts and the decisions passed on them. The relevant document is being formulated now. The people will then formulate conclusions through the agency of the media – whether the decisions were correct or incorrect,” said the official.

Asked about the reform done at the Ministry of the Interior, the minister said he is not satisified with the pace of changes. “I do not want to and we should not look for those to blame. A reform has its own inertia. A system that is to be reformed will evidently put up resistance. We should not complain. What we should do is to implement the reform, despite the current financial constraints,” added Dorin Recean.

In order to bring the police closer to the people, the Ministry created 178 local sections that should be appropriately equipped. 15% of these sections were already outfitted. The others will be equipped by the end of next year.
