Interior Ministry proves young people killed in road accident weren’t chased by police

The car that was involved in the August 14 accident that resulted in the death of all the eight occupants wasn’t pursued by the police, while the images of the scene published by a TV channel were modified digitally. This is how the Ministry of the Interior reacted after the media disseminated images showing a police car chasing that car that was speeding, IPN reports.

On its website, the General Police Inspectorate says that the analysis of the images published on the site of the TV channel showed that it is a clip made from images taken by video cameras of the filling station situated near the place of the accident. But the date and hour in the original images were cut.

The Ministry of the Interior published the original images taken from two filling stations. The cameras of the first station, which is located about 1 km from the scene, showed the car with the eight young people passing by at high speed. But it wasn’t followed by a police car.

One of the surveillance cameras of the other gas station filmed how the car skidded on a part of the road, at 23.37. The moment was seen by station workers and employees of the private guard service “Berkut” who stationed themselves nearby. Shortly after the impact, the “Berkut” car approached the scene and switched on the accident warning signal. The lights of this signal were presented as the police car’s siren in the images broadcast by the media.

The Ministry said the Internal Security and Corruption Combating Service examined multiple videos, questioned dozens of witnesses and verified the locations of the cars of the National Patrolling Inspectorate at the hour when the accident happened. The evidence proves that the car involved in the accident wasn’t chased by a police car.
