The Ministry of the Interior ordered discharging the commissioner of Falesti Valeriu Cojocaru, vice commissioner for operative work Oleg German and other local police officers following the internal inquiry into the case of Sorin Paciu, who was wounded mortally in the “Domneasca Forest” reserve on December 23, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on January 14, Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean said he was informed about this case on January 4 and he then ordered an internal inquiry. According to him, the criminal case opened by the prosecutors on December 25 was sent for registration to the Falesti Police Commissariat on December 28. The police in Falesti informed the Police Department about the investigation on January 3. Dorin Recean said both the local police and those from the hospital acted inappropriately as they were told not to reveal information in the hope that the case will not become known nationwide. Besides the commissioner and deputy commission, the Ministry also ordered firing the head of the guard unit, the policeman who received the phone call and the person who went to the hospital. The employee of the Internal Security Division Eugen Piterschii will hold the post of commissioner on an interim basis. Asked if he will suspend himself from post, as Speaker Marian Lupu advised and Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko did, Dorin Recean said the legislation does not allow dismissing a suspended person, but he does not need such kind of protection. He also said that he didn’t take part in the hunting and there is no conflict of interest. Thus, he cannot affect the investigation if he continues work. However, the investigations of the Ministry of the Interior revealed a number of shortcomings in the management of the case and the inquiry is to be continued. On January 10, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Supreme Council of Magistrates deprived judge Gheorghe Cretu of immunity so that he could be investigated in this case. The prosecutors accused him of accidentally shooting Sorin Paciu. The same day, Cretu resigned from the post of vice president of the Chisinau Court of Appeals and from the post of judge.
