A number of 250 employees of the Ministry of the Interior attended training courses and exchanged experience with Romanian colleagues within the project “Strengthening Moldovan carabineer troops’ capacities” that lasted for 15 months, IPN reports.
In the conference held to mark the competition of the project, Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean said there is a large number of joint projects that over the last six months exceeded €1 million. This cooperation was also aimed at integrating the carabineer troops into the European area so as to help them deal with the challenges that can appear when the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area between Moldova and the EU is fully extended and following the abolition of the visa requirements for Moldovans by the EU, which allowed greater mobility of persons.
Adrian Romanica, brigade general and representative of the Romanian Gendarmerie Command, said the objectives of the project were to increase the professionalism of the Moldovan carabineers and to transmit good practices to them so that they can meet the European standards on public order.
Attending the event, Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau Marius Lazurca said that he has lived in Moldova for almost five years and never felt himself in danger when spending his leisure time as an ordinary citizen in parks and on the street. This feeling of safety is the result of the work done to maintain public order.
The project cost €90,000 and was financed with Official Development Assistance of Romania.
