Rodica Antoci, the head of the National Integrity Agency (ANI), has been formally recognized as a suspect after being heard by prosecutors in a criminal investigation against her on abuse of office charges.

Antoci denies any wrongdoing and intends to plead not guilty in the event of a trial.

“All the actions undertaken during her term of office have been carried out in strict accordance with the law, ensuring transparency in the activity, but also in the actions aimed at public procurement. This is confirmed by audit reports and other information that has been continuously updated and published on the Agency’s website. At the same time, the Court of Auditors carried out annual audit missions at ANI and did not report any criminal inconsistencies,” the Agency said in a press release.

Antoci has also complained at the Chisinau/Ciocana Court against what she thinks was an illegal search at her home last week.

Prosecutors believe Antoci and another ANI employee misused 126,500 lei ($7,000) by painting the Agency’s cars and installing doors at the offices outside contractual procedures.
