Installation of tablets on monuments in Chisinau is delayed

The installation of tablets on historical edifices of national importance in Chisinau is delayed. The tablets should bear the name and the date of monument’s building. Authorities blame the delay on technical problems. Two months ago, on February 8, the first two tablets were installed on the buildings of the City Hall and of the B.P. Hasdeu Library on Stefan cel Mare Avenue. Back then, Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu promised that 24 other tablets would be installed over the next 3 weeks, which never happened. “Things were delayed because of acquisition procedures”, Lilian Carp, head of the Mayor’s staff, told Info-Prim Neo. He assured that tablets were ready and next week they would be installed on monuments. Ion Stefanita, director of the Agency for Monuments’ Inspection and Restoration, hopes that the authorities’ engagement regarding tablets won’t remain mere statements. The City Hall announced that tablets with the name and date of building would be installed on the most important edifices of the city, after three monuments had been illegally demolished at the beginning of the year. Local authorities want to inform citizens about the value of these monuments and hope they will become more responsible and won’t admit any more demolitions.
