Inspectorate for Emergencies gets U.S humanitarian aid intended for Ukrainian refugees

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations received a consignment of humanitarian assistance to the value of over US$1.6 million from the United States intended for the Ukrainian refugees. The lot consists of nine containers with over 7,000 items, IPN reports.

General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations chief Alexandru Oprea said the donation from the United States will help the Inspectorate to better prepare for offering assistance to foreigners, especially the citizens of Ukraine.

Secretary general of the Ministry of the Interior Sergey Diaconu said the U.S. Embassy and the people of the United States have always stood by the Republic of Moldova and responded to the needs of citizens. “Today we see a gesture of generosity on the part of the American people, the U.S. Embassy, which comes to support not only our needs, but also the needs of those who are now in difficulty due to the war in the neighboring state and also the citizens of other states who fled the war,” said official.

“In these dramatic times, Moldova did an extraordinary thing for the refugees from Ukraine. It offered safety, compassion and hospitality to the persons in need. We hope that our assistance will contribute to better living conditions for the persons who had to leave their homes. I want to thank everyone for what you do for your country and your community,” said U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon.

The first part of the humanitarian assistance was offered by the U.S. to the
General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations on April 13.
