An inspection group will assess 38 criminal cases that were allegedly started based on political motives. An order to this effect was made by Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo after he familiarized himself with the statements of NGOs and with the PACE Report showing that a series of cases are suspected of being started against persons from Moldova illegally, abusively, selectively and for political reasons, IPN reports.

Alexandr Stoianoglo told a news conference that the PACE list includes 11 persons, namely lawyers Ana Ursachi, Eduard Rudenco, Ion Crețu, judges Domnica Manole, Dorin Munteanu, Gheorghe Balan, and activists Pavel Grigorciuc, Grigore Petrenco, Gheorghe Petic, Sergiu Ciubotaru, and Valentin Eșanu.

“This way, from the start of this week, the group consisting of six prosecutors will assess and will present reports on each of the criminal cases put on the list, which are under investigation or under examination in court or at the decision execution stage. Later, the information will be debated and analyzed by the administration of the PGO together with prosecutors in charge of the cases. If serious deviations from the legislation in the starting and handling of these cases are identified, appropriate legal measures will be taken,” stated the prosecutor general.

According to him, the cases that are at the investigation stage will be dropped. In the cases that are pending in court, the prosecutors will drop the charges or will reclassify the deeds, while in the cases under execution, they will consider the possibility of taking extraordinary appeal measures.
