Inquiry commission to examine KGB archives

The Parliament's Legal Commission today voted to create an inquiry commission to examine the situation of the archives administrated by the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic's Committee for State Security (KGB), Info-Prim Neo reports. The commission is to present a report to Parliament on the number and classification levels of the KGB files, which are stored in the archives of the Security and Intelligence Service, the Ministry of the Interior and the National Archive. It is believed that part of the Moldavian KGB files are kept in Tiraspol. The proposal to create the commission came from the Liberal Party. Its leader Mihai Ghimpu said the number of KGB files has remained unknown despite the fact that more than to decades have passed from independence. The commission will be composed of 11 members and chaired by a Liberal.
