Projects contributing to energy efficiency and the use of renewable resources were recognized at the 2024 Moldova Eco Energetică Gala. Ion Muntean, Director of the National Center for Sustainable Energy, highlighted that the 14th edition of the event demonstrates the successful implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives in Moldova, IPN reports.
"For us, it is essential to acknowledge the efforts of those behind these projects, individuals who have poured their hearts into creating a positive impact on communities", said Ion Muntean.
The awards featured categories dedicated to the public sector, innovative solutions under development by companies, and a special section for media outlets promoting sustainable energy.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean underlined the need for businesses to adapt to the evolving realities of energy markets. He stressed the importance of responsible energy use, focusing on optimizing consumption.
Jānis Mažeiks, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, congratulated the Gala’s winners for their courage to bring much-needed change to a strategic sector. "With a shared vision and coordinated efforts, Moldova can make significant progress in building a sustainable energy future. The European Union will remain a reliable partner in this endeavor", he stated.
Claudia Hermes, Country Director of GIZ Moldova, praised the remarkable energy efficiency and renewable energy projects presented at the event. She noted that these initiatives serve as models, showcasing best practices in energy efficiency implementation.
UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova, Daniela Gasparikova, celebrated the collective efforts to transform Moldova’s energy sector. She expressed gratitude for the invaluable support of UNDP’s partners, including the European Union, Italy, Denmark, and others, who contributed to these achievements.
Awards were presented for categories such as "Best Energy Efficiency Project in Street Lighting", "Best Energy Efficiency Project in Public Buildings", "Best Renewable Thermal Energy Project in Public Buildings", and "Best Energy Efficiency and/or Renewable Energy Project Implemented by a Woman", among others.
The event was organized by the National Center for Sustainable Energy, with support from the Ministry of Energy, in partnership with the European Union, GIZ Moldova, UNDP, the Government of Italy, and USAID.
