The soldier who shot himself last night is in a very serious state, department head at the Chisinau Emergency Hospital Ciprian Gherasim has told IPN. The 24-year-old man has five gunshot wounds – one in the thorax on the left side and one in the head. Four bullets penetrated the left lung, making it non-functional.

According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the soldier went on sentry duty yesterday, Match 12. He had on him an AK-74 gun and two cartridges with 60 bullets, 5.45 mm caliber. Hearing gunshots at the sentry post near the munitions depot, servicemen rushed to the place, where they found the injured soldier.

The man was drafted into the army on a contract basis last March. From last June, he has done his military service at the Independent Peacekeeping Forces Battalion No. 3 located in Cosnita, Dubsari.
