The initiative of the municipal Communist and Socialist councilors to organize a referendum on the dismissal of Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca failed. Only 22 councilors of the 44 attending the October 24 meeting of the Chisinau Council voted in favor of holding the referendum. For a referendum to take place, at last 34 local councilors should give their votes for this, IPN reports.

The municipal councilors voted to create a nominal commission responsible for the initiation of the referendum on the dismissal of Dorin Chirtoaca. The commission approved the model of the ballot and agreed the voting procedure. The vote was secret and lasted for about 30 minutes. The results were announced by the commission’s head Valeriu Diozu, of the Communist Party.
