Initiative group demands stopping construction in Shipka Park

The members of an initiative group Monday asked the local authorities to remove the fence surrounding a building site in Shipka Park, which is situated in Chisinau's Rascani district. They came to the Chisinau City Hall with placards and whistles and chanted slogans in favor of keeping the green areas, Info Prim Neo reports. The initiative group protests against the construction of a church in this recreational area. The protesters claim that priest Boris Papuc erects the church illegally as he does not have an authorization and he cut about ten trees. “He should plant back the same number of tees,” said protester Olga Nitsvetskaya. Participant Gheorghe Vasluian said that if measures are not taken, he will continue to protest because the fence hinders access to the public recreational area. The protest turned into a march that headed for the Prosecutor General's Office Acting Mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu said the order to take the fence away was made on May 8, but the priest did not comply with it. The order was transmitted to the Rascani district head's office, which will forcibly remove the fence.
