Initiative group announces creation of Party of Reformist Communists

An initiative group headed by civic activist Ruslan Popa has announced the creation of the Party of Reformist Communists. In a press briefing at IPN, Ruslan Popa said the party aims to become an alternative for the voters of the Communist Party (PCRM), which didn’t fulfill the promises made to the people.

The activist said the PCRM has so far lost voters and important members. About 7,000 people left the party for the reason that they didn’t like the things happening inside it.

According to Ruslan Popa, the PCRM includes several groups that have different views on Moldova’s future. Some of them want Moldova to integrate into the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Eurasian Union, while others plead for the European integration.

Ruslan Popa also said that some of those who left the PCRM in the period created left-wing parties, but didn’t dare to say that they represent an alternative for the voters of the Communist Party.

The Party of Reformist Communists aims to fulfill the electoral promises unfulfilled by the PCRM. It will promote the integration of Moldova into the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union and will plead for instituting Russian as the second official language and for adopting a Lustration Law that will allow making public the names of the persons who collaborated with the Communist secret police.

Ruslan Popa called on the voters of the PCRM to make a correct choice in the next elections, for a party that will not let them down.

The initiative group is collecting the signatures needed for registering the party. The constitution congress is set to take place this May.
