Initiative: Europe Day should be declared a national holiday

Two bills to declare Europe Day marked on May 9 as a national holiday were registered in Parliament. The authors of the bills are former Liberal-Democrats, unaffiliated MPs Mihaela Spataru, George Mocanu, Stefan Creanga, Vladimir Hotineanu, Ion Balan, and Nae-Simion Plesca, IPN reports.

According to the authors, though the Government of Moldova does reforms to adjust the national legislation to the European standards and pursues the ultimate goal of European integration, there is no legal act that would legalize Europe Day, which is a symbolic day for the European integration aspirations of Moldova.

The bills contain supplements to the Parliament’s decision concerning commemorative days, holidays and nonworking days in Moldova and to the Labor Code.
