Moldova and the European Union are now initialing the Association Agreement. The procedure is performed by the chief negotiators on behalf of Moldova for the association with the EU – Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman and Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac, alongside the chief negotiators on behalf of the EU – Head of the Directorate for Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia of the European Commission Gunnar Wiegand and chief negotiator on the creation of the Free Trade Area on behalf of the European Commission Luc Devigne.
Tatiana Cazacu, deputy head of the Government’s communication and relations with the mass media service, has told IPN that this is the technical part of the initiating, while the last initials will be put by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.
The Association Agreement with the EU includes the creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. It has over 900 pages. The initialing procedure lasts for several hours as every page is to be initialed.
