A group of residents and councilors of Puhaceni village of Anenii Noi district accuse the mayor and local elected officials of acting to the detriment of the community and of transforming this gradually into an industrial area. In a news conference at IPN on February 26, these said that by the decisions taken in its meetings, the Local Council allows to abusively exploit the local quarries.
Villager Veaceslav Plamadeala said that works to exploit a local quarry started in 2011 and two more quarries started to be used in 2017. As a result, the roads were damaged, being illegally used by large trucks. The fertile farmland situated near the quarries was turned into non-farmland so as to be exploited as quarry against the inhabitants’ will.
According to Veaceslav Plamadeala, the locals have to daily inhale the dust that comes from the quarries and an increasing number of residents experience serious health problems. Prime Minster Pavel Filip and officials of the competent ministry visited the place following complaints submitted by locals, but the problems haven’t been solved.
Veaceslav Savchenko from the same village said a complaint and two denouncing statements concerning the actions of the mayor and councilors, who allowed using the quarries, were submitted in 2017 to the district law enforcement bodies, but their examination is delayed.
Local councilor Valeriu Gushoski said the villagers can no longer grow vegetables owing to the deposited layer of sand and gravel. Until 2015, only the Government could modify the purpose of land. Since this duty was transferred to local councils, the situation in Puhaceni village has worsened.
The petitioners called on the representatives of the media to take part in the February 28 meeting of the Local Council, where the purpose of a number of plots of land is to be changed. They also called upon the inhabitants of the village not to give up and mobilize and to insistently demand that the faced problems be solved.
