Several main streets of Chisinau that were extensively repaired several years ago will be included in a program to determine the sum needed to repeatedly repair them. The program was asked for by Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. He demanded that the information about the period when the streets were extensively repaired, the sum invested then and the sum needed for repair now should be synthesized, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to road workers, Stefan cel Mare Blvd. hasn’t been repaired since 1977, while Dacia and Decebal boulevards since 1974. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said that investments 3-4 times larger are needed every year for repairing the streets completely, besides the allocations for maintenance. “If we work at the same pace as last year, we will need 5-6 years of investments to repair the main arteries,” he stated. “We must make an analysis because the people say the taxes increased, but repair works are not done. You can work in two shifts if possible,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. As to Stefan cel Mare Blvd., the mayor said that there should be carried out special inspections to see how the initiated works are executed and what other works are planned. When the program to modernize the boulevard is launched, these aspects will also have to be taken into account. Nistor Grozavu said a hotel is being erected near the Ministry of Agriculture, but the works were halted, while near the Teacher Training University there is built a bookshop. The office near Patria Movie Theater will start to be constructed in 2014. As many as 22 Chisinau streets have been stopped up so far this year. Extensive repair works will be initiated in summer. Efim Cheptanari, director of the road maintenance company “Exdrupo” said there are five teams of workers who stop up the roads, even when the asphalt is wet. If the weather permits, they will be able to repair daily about 500 meters of road.
