Information about assistance for refugees will be available on platform

Information about the assistance received by the Republic of Moldova for Ukrainian refugees and about how this was distributed will be provided on a web platform that is to be launched by the authorities, the Government’s secretary general Dumitru Udrea told a news conference.

The official noted that Moldova received humanitarian aid from several important sources, such as the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and the common bank account opened by the Ministry of Finance at the start of the crisis. Donations were also received from private individuals and legal entities from the country and abroad and from other states – over 58 million lei and almost 300 lots of humanitarian aid, 35 of which were intended for the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and for the Ministry of the Interior, in the amount of over €1.2 million. Other lots of aid intended for local authorities came through NGOs, religious organizations and international organizations working in Moldova.

As many as 82 lots of food and nonfood products were distributed from the Vatra storehouse to placement centers and local public authorities of the first level. This week, UN agencies started to implement two financial support programs for refugees and for Moldovan families that house refugees.

Twenty-five public health facilities received medical assistance. Over 6,800 refugees asked for urgency primary and hospital medical assistance. Fifteen health workers from Ukraine were allowed to work in Moldovan medical institutions during the state of emergency.

The Ministry of Education and Research worked out the framework for regulating the enrollment at school of refugee children. Over 2,000 Ukrainian children have been admitted to schools and kindergartens in Moldova.

The Unified Crisis Management Center will soon present a progress report for March 2022. A detailed report on the costs covered with funds accumulated in the treasury account opened by the Ministry of Finance to help manage the refugee crisis will be published not later than April 15.

“Regrettably, the war in Ukraine isn’t over and the Republic of Moldova already feels the consequences of this, including the inflation, the consequences of the energy crisis and the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Together with the team, we will continue taking measures to alleviate the impact of crises on our citizens and to transform these crises into development opportunities for the country,” stated Dumitru Udrea.
