Inflation reached 1.5% in Moldova in May
In May, as compared with April, the average consumer prices increased by 1.5 per cent in Moldova, including by 2.9% for food and by 1.2% for non-eatable products. The prices of utilities in May remained at the April level, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Statistics National Bureau.
Significant price rises of food were recorded as to the rice – by 64.2%, potatoes – 10.1%, sunflower oil – 4.1%, meat and meat products – 3.8% (poultry meat – 5.2% and pork – 4.3%).
The rise in prices of non-eatable products was marked by more expensive fuels – by 4.7% (oil products – by 8.3% and bottled natural gas – by 7.2%) and medicines – 3.1%.
Also in May, the tariffs for tourism and trip services and the cost of repairing dwelling spaces rose by 5.2% each, education children in kindergartens – by 3.9 %.
At the same time, the prices of fresh fruit decreased, compared with April, by 5.2%, of dairy – by 2.4%, greenhouse vegetables: cucumbers – by 16.8% and mushrooms – by 4.2%. As for the industrial goods, the prices of textiles and footwear droped.
Since the beginning of the year, the inflation level has been 7.4%. In May 2007, compared with December 2006 the inflation level was 3.9%.
