The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office said the hit-and-run driver who struck four pedestrians who were legally crossing the street in the evening of December 18 was arrested, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the accident occurred on N. Zelinski St in Chisinau. The driver didn’t stop at the green color of the traffic lights and hit four persons by his car, two of whom were children. As a result of the impact, the four pedestrians needed medical care. The children were taken to the Municipal Hospital “V. Ignatenco”, but were allowed to go home after being examined.

After leaving the place of the accident, the man threatened several civilians with his gun that he held legally. He was shortly arrested by patrolling officers.

The man turned out to be a 34-year-old lawyer from Chisinau. The breath test showed an alcohol concentration of 0.84 mg/l in the exhaled air, which is an advanced inebriation level.

The lawyer was arrested for 72 hours. Prosecutors started two criminal cases - over violation of road traffic rules while driving under the influence of alcohol and threatening with death. The man faces four to eight years in jail and ban on driving for a period of four to five years.
