The fire that occurred in a storehouse on Industriala St in Chisinau half a year ago and claimed the lives of a fireman and a woman employee was caused by a short circuit. It was established that the short circuit was the result of the improper use of heating devices by a business entity.
Contacted by IPN, deputy prosecutor of Chisinau municipality Ruslan Popov, chief of the Ciocana Office, said the examination was completed last weekend.
The exact extent of the damage caused to companies that stored things there will become known in three weeks. The prosecutors are preparing the indictment over violation of the anti-fire rules and non-fulfillment of the ordinances of state anti-fire surveillance bodies.
The penalty for such violations is a fine of 27,500 lei to 42,500 lei or up to two years in jail. The business entity can also be obliged to pay damages.
The November 11, 2016 fire resulted in the death of a fireman aged 28 and a 44-year-old woman, whose body was found after the fire was put out. The fire, which lasted for over 27 hours, was declared the largest in the last 40 years. The building is now under demolition.
