The Central Electoral Commission is advising the public that amendments have been made to the procedure for making donations to support political activity, effective as of January 1, 2023.

In particular, this year, individuals may contribute a maximum of 70,200 lei in total, including a maximum of 11,700 lei in cash.

The total amount, which is equivalent to 6 average monthly salaries, shall include any form of property, assets or unpaid services. Also, the maximum may not exceed 30% of the contributor’s annual income for the previous year. For government officials, bureaucrats and public sector employees, the maximum is 10% of the income.

Any form of income may be donated towards political activity, except for social assistance payments.

If the donating individual is a party member, membership fees also count towards the maximum. At the same time, membership fees and donations shall be booked separately in the respective party’s financial records.

Violating these rules in considered a contravention (a non-criminal offense) under Moldovan legislation and is punishable by fines ranging from 30 to 90 conventional units.
