Independent candidate for mayor pleads for close cooperation with central authorities

The confrontations between the central and local public administration must be settled and the local authorities have to be on good terms with the government for the sake of Chisinau residents, says Petru Bodarev, independent candidate for Chisinau mayor who presented the principles of his electoral programme on Tuesday, May 8. Bodarev says he disagrees with behind-the-scenes disputes, and that is why he will insist on strengthening local autonomy and increasing responsibility at the local level. Environment protection, the need to optimise the transport network, by building multi-storied parking lots etc. are among the main problems that the city and residents confront with and which Bodarev promises to pay particular attention to. The cited source stated that he will make sustainable efforts to open new workplaces and will encourage the implementation of modern technologies at all levels of activity. Bodarev said he decided to run as independent candidate because he does not want to be the “servant” of a party, but of the people. The interests of the residents of the entire city can be represented more efficiently only by an independent candidate, he insisted. Petru Bodarev is the 15-th candidate for the position of Chisinau mayor of those 16 registered so far. On Tuesday, May 8, the District Election Council is to decide on the registration of another three persons who submitted the documents for this post for the June 3 local elections.
