Increased subsidies for growing vegetables on protected land and developing post-harvest infrastructure

The subsidies provided to farmers for stimulating investments in growing vegetables on protected land and for developing post-harvest and processing infrastructure will be raised. According to Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Valeriu Cosarciuc, the stimulation of investments in the two areas will allow providing the home market with fresh products throughout the year and will contribute to increasing Moldova's exports of vegetal products, Info-Prim Neo reports. The subsidies for investments in growing vegetables on protected land (hothouses) will be increased from 30% to 40% of the cost of the hothouse modules and production equipment, but not more than 400,000 lei for every participant in the project, as against 200,000 lei at present. The subsidies for developing post-harvest and processing infrastructure will also be raised from 30% to 40% of the cost of the equipment bought and set up by the processing units, packing and refrigeration houses. The subsidy for a recipient will not exceed 400,000 lei, as against 300,000 lei at present. The agriculture subsidization fund for this year totals 300 million lei. The money is used to stimulate lending to agriculture and investments in different agricultural activities, to support and develop ecological agriculture, to buy thoroughbred animals, to cover the irrigation costs and other purposes.
