The volume of medical services provided to the population for both cataract surgeries and locomotor prosthetic surgeries is on the rise. In the first 11 months of 2024, over 6,200 cardiovascular surgeries were funded through the mandatory health insurance program. A significant upward trend was observed in costly procedures, such as cataract surgeries, which exceeded 11,000 operations, and locomotor prosthetic surgeries, totaling approximately 6,000 interventions. Ion Dodon, Director General of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM), stated that reducing waiting times for these surgeries will remain a key focus next year.
CNAM manages the waiting list for cataract surgeries and locomotor prosthetic procedures. Previously, the average waiting time for each of these interventions was nearly three years. This has now been reduced to just over one year, Ion Dodon noted during a press conference, IPN reports.
Additionally, access to high-performance medical services has increased. Over 600,000 advanced medical investigations were performed in the first 11 months of this year, an increase of 47,000 compared to the same period last year. Among the most requested services were imaging, computed tomography, echocardiography, and magnetic resonance imaging.
The CNAM Director General also addressed the issue of prioritizing patients who pay out-of-pocket in medical institutions. He emphasized that measures will be implemented in 2025 to eliminate these practices. Dodon stated that it is unacceptable for an insured individual who pays health insurance premiums to wait in line, while someone who has not contributed to the insurance system pays out-of-pocket to bypass the queue.
