Incomes and expenses of parties decreased drastically in 2016

In 2016, the incomes and expenses of the political parties of Moldova declined drastically, show the latest financial reports presented by these to the Central Election Commission (CEC). The Democratic Party (PDM) is the only party that earned higher incomes, IPN reports, quoting an investigation published on anticoruptie.md

The PDM reported incomes and costs of over 15 million lei gained between January 1 and June 30, 2016. The party collected 13.2 million lei in donations from party members, 7.5 million lei in membership dues and 1.8 million lei in donations from other persons.

The over 900 persons who made donations to the PDM offered sums of 2,000 to 75,000 lei. However, Vladimir Maiduc, ex-head of the Interior Ministry’s Internal Protection and Anticorruption Division, donated 500,000 lei. Vladimir Plahotniuc and the Democratic MPs and ministers are not among the donors to the PDM.

Comported with the PDM, the incomes and expenses of the other parties decreased considerably. The Party of Socialists indicated incomes of over 3.2 million lei in the first half of this year, as opposed to over 27 million lei last year. The money was obtained mainly from donations, made primarily by Socialist MPs, who contributed by 5,000 lei.

Renato Usatyi’s “Our Party” reported incomes of 1.3 million lei from membership dues and 400,000 lei from donations of party members. Lawyer Igor Pohila is the only donor of the party. This earlier also made donations of hundreds of thousands of lei to the party. Renato Usatyi is not among the party’s donors. As the other parties, “Our Party” spent money on maintaining the head offices and on promotion in the media.

Vladimir Voronin’s son Oleg Voronin made the largest donations to the Party of Communists. This year he has donated 100,000 lei for maintaining the party led by his father. However, the party’s incomes and costs decreased considerably, from over 9 million lei last year to 862,000 lei in the first half of this year.

The Liberal Party this year has had modest incomes of 327,000 lei, all collected in donations from party members, almost 200,000 lei of which from the party’s leader Mihai Ghimpu.

The Liberal Democratic Party reported 553,000 lei earned mainly from donations made by MPs and mayors of the party, of 1,000 to 15,000 lei.

The other parties indicated insignificant incomes. The financial reports are to be verified and analyzed by the CEC. The parties that didn’t present financial reports face a fine of 6,000 to 10,000 lei imposed on persons holding responsible posts.
