The number of respiratory infection cases in Chisinau is on the rise, with a 20% growth on last week. The information was presented by Luminita Suveica, head of the Healthcare Department, during City Hall’s ordinary meeting on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports. However, Luminita Suveica said the situation last year was worse, with far more infections reported. At the same time, the number of flu cases has decreased by 9% compared to the beginning of the year. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca requested an internal investigation into the death of a three year old. The baby died because of flu, after being repeatedly denied hospitalization. Luminita Suveica blamed the Emergency Service and not the Valentin Ignatenco Hospitall staff, where the child was eventually admitted to. During last week, 371 cases of respiratory infections have been registered. Over half of them affected children. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 145 confirmed flu cases and 5144 upper respiratory tract infections in Chisinau.
