The new chairman of Transnistria's commission on foreign policy Dmitri Soin will take an active part in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, considers Maxim Kuzovlev, a journalist from Tiraspol, Info-Prim Neo reports. The journalist has told Radio Free Europe that the situation as regards Transnistria's foreign policy is not as unambiguous as the previous years. Immediately after the new Supreme Soviet set up its executive bodies and parliamentary commissions, Dmitri Soin was named as head of the commission on foreign policy. According to Kuzovlev, Dmitri Soin is in open opposition to Transnistria's foreign ministry, which he criticizes mercilessly through the mass media that he owns. “The foreign ministry (in Tiraspol) reacts to this criticism and is in a kind of polemics with Dmitri Soin, who is not only the leader of the Party “Proryv”, but is also a deputy and the chairman of the commission on foreign policy,” the journalist explained. Maxim Kuzovlev considers this fact should not inspire much hope as if the separatist leader Igor Smirnov does not like the policy pursued by Soin, he may block any activity in this respect. According to Maxim Kuzovlev, the appointments of Eugen Carpov as Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Matters represents a new stage for the Moldovan Foreign Ministry. The journalist said Eugen Carpov's assertion that emphasis in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process will be put on the support of the EU and other Western partners of Moldova is something of a novelty.
