In times of the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately half of Moldova’s population does not work, 20% work from home, while 33% work at the place of work, shows a poll commissioned by the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul” to CBX-AXA, IPN reports.
When presenting the study, economist of “Viitorul” Veaceslav Ioniță said 48% of the working citizens said they have a safe and stable job and are not worried about losing it. 8% of those surveyed said they could lose their job and 17% said they lost their job the current month. 26% didn’t answer.
88% of the respondents noted they received the salary on time, while 12% said they didn’t get the salary.
Half of those polled said their incomes remained unchanged and will not undergo changes during the next few months. Almost 10% said their incomes increased and will yet increase during the next few months. 29% noted their incomes diminished and 10% said they decreased dramatically.
Some 50% of those interviewed said they live on the current incomes and do not have savings, 27% said they have insignificant savings, while 11% said their savings are enough for several months.
Veaceslav Ioniță said it was estimated that the Moldovans who returned home in March after working abroad for over a year is of about 20,000. None of these lost their job. One third of them anticipate they will soon lose their job, while a part said their job is stable.
The poll was carried out by phone during March - April 2020 and covered a sample of 1,104 adults.
