IPN Agency reacted to the concerns expressed by Moldovan society, which fears that the day of May 9 may be used by different circles of interest as a pretext for particular kinds of provocations and for causing destabilization in Moldova. The concerns seem sufficiently justified in the context of the profound regional crisis that affects Moldova too. The given mini-series will present the opinions of representatives of central and local public authorities, of political parties and analysts and the measures by which the possible provocations can be prevented or annihilated.

The fears concerning possible provocations in Moldova on May 9 are justified, considers political analyst Ion Tabarta. Contacted by IPN, he said that after the events that took place in Odessa, when dozens of people died as a result of provocations, we should also expect provocations of any kind.
“Odessa is a quiet city and it seemed that no violence can happen there. The provocations there left the impression that some of the persons were sacrificed on purpose,” said Ion Tabarta.
He does not exclude different kinds of provocations in Moldova. “In our country, any national holiday and any historical day may arouse serious controversy. They have a double interpretation –of the Soviet type and a national one. It’s not excluded that provokers will be infiltrated into the crowd on May 9, who will stir things up,” stated Ion Tabarta.
The unionist marches of the Union Council and the demonstrations staged earlier in Balti, Cahul and even Chisinau resulted in provocations. The authorities and the institutions that ensure security must be on the alert during these days, considers the analyst.
According to Ion Tabarta, we see how Russia is trying to create a reference point in eastern Ukraine so as to generate a hotbed of instability. Russian President Vladimir Putin will make effort to destabilize the situation in Donetsk, Crimea, Odessa and in the Transnistrian region.
He added that the Moldovan authorities must make an appeal to calmness. “The police must act promptly and prevent the worsening of the situation. There will be different provocations. We already see arrests in the Transnistrian region, obstacles to normal communication. We must not yield up. We know what we should expect, but the competent institutions must use all the necessary instruments and methods to prevent destabilization,” stated Ion Tabarta.
A number of events will be staged in Moldova on May 9. Some will mark Europe Day by them, while others - Victory Day.
