In Romania there is consensus to support Moldova’s aspirations towards EU, Crin Antonescu

The President of the Romanian Senate Crin Antonescu came to Moldova with the message that there is consensus in Romania, both among the parliamentary majority and the opposition, to support the Moldovans on their path to European integration. He delivered the message in a news conference held jointly with his Moldovan counterpart Igor Corman, IPN reports.

Crin Antonescu said the initialing of the Association Agreement with the EU at the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit was a deserved success for Moldova, while the support that Romania is ready to provide is not only political. The governmental and parliamentary cooperation will be continued and developed.

The Romanian official also referred to the European Commission’s recommendation to abolish the visa requirements for Moldovans. He said that some of the EU member states fear a wave of Moldovan migrants, but Romania is making effort to convince them that the fears are not justified.

Igor Corman said the Moldovan authorities want to maximally profit from the experience of their Romanian colleagues as regards the European integration process. “We count on Romania’s support in implementing the European agenda,” he stated.

Crin Antonescu is in Moldova on a two-day visit. On December 5, he will give a lecture themed “European Union – our common home” at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
