A bust of actor and film director Ion Ungureanu will be built at 18 Pacii St in Causeni town. The Cabinet took such a decision at the suggestion of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research following a request made by the Causeni District Council, IPN reports.

The draft design will be approved by the Ministry, while the costs for building the bust and laying out the adjoining area will be covered with funds from the local budget.

Ion Ungureanu was born in Opaci village of Causeni district in 1935. He played roles in 25 films produced at “Moldova-film” and “Mosfilm” and worked as an actor and film director at the Central Television in Moscow. He held office of minister of culture and cults in Moldova. In recognition for his work, he was awarded the honorific titles of Emeritus Master of Arts of the Russian Federation and People’s Artist of Moldova. He is a laureate of the State Award, a Knight of the Order of the Republic and a Doctor Honoris Causa of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. He died on January 28, 2017.
