Improper use of state symbols to be fined

The violation of the rules of using state symbols will be punishable by fines of up to 2,000 lei, under an amendment to the Code of Administrative Offenses the that was approved at its first reading on Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Under the amendment, which was proposed by the Ministry of Justice, there will also be fines for desecrating state symbols and for deliberately violating the rules of using corporate symbols of the central public authorities or of the armed forces. Fines for individuals will range from 300 to 700 lei, and for legal entities from 1,200 to 2,000 lei. Liberal-Democrat Veaceslav Ionita said the scope of this piece of legislation should be clearly defined before it is debated at its second reading. “There are football clubs that have their symbols, but which they do not want to register. We should clearly define the scope of this law, so that those who don't want to register their symbols are free to use them nonetheless”.
