Import of agricultural products to be permitted based on license, CES decision

The import of wheat, corn and sunflower seeds will be permitted based on a license issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Commission for Exceptional Situations (CES) and is designed to maintain economically sustainable grain prices on the domestic market, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

“The licensing of grain imports into the Republic of Moldova is necessary for regulating trade with agricultural products in the country,” Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea stated in a press briefing. He noted that the goal is to control and monitor the import of grain, ensuring this way the quality and safety of products for consumers. The licensing will also help stabilize grain prices and protect local producers. This way, stricter control could be ensured over the quality of imported products so that they meet the food safety standards.

In the same meeting, the CES ordered new measures to improve the monitoring of the information space by the Security and Intelligence Service. Another decision refers to the renewable energy market and the regulation of the fiscal regime of the balancing procedures needed when the green energy producers generate more or less energy than they forecasted.

The Commission also extended the period of validity of the environmental permit and the air emissions permit of the Rybnitsa-based Moldova Steel Works until October 31, 2023.

A sum of 1.7 million lei was allocated from the Government’s intervention fund for maintaining temporary placement centers for refugees, which were set up by local public authorities of the second level, while 272,000 lei was allocated to the centers managed by the local public authorities of the first level.
