The implementation of the national common emergency phone service 112 was discussed by Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan and Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania Raed Arafat, who is in Chisinau on a visit. In a joint news conference, the officials said that they analyzed the most efficient and simplest methods of implementing the service in Moldova, IPN reports.

Ruxanda Glavan noted that they discussed the possibility of introducing integrated dispatcher’ services, which are fewer in number, but will include representatives of all the authorities. This method is simple from technical viewpoint and costs less. “The objective we set is to create an integrated emergency service with integrated dispatcher’ services so that the teams of doctors work hand in hand with the firefighters and the police and the tragic and unsolved cases remain in the past,” stated the minister.

For his part, Raed Arafat said that positive changes have been witnessed in the emergency medicine system of Moldova during the last two-three years. Within the second SMURD project between Moldova and Romania, two emergency admission units outfitted according to the European standards will be set up to. There will also be built up four safety landing points for the SMURD helicopters from Romania.

The Romanian official said the project has a budget of €10 million for both of the countries. He underlined the necessity of facilitating the intervention of the SMURD helicopters in Romania and Moldova.
