The imitations of food products could be banned in the Republic of Moldova. It is about inedible products that can be easily mixed up with particular foods products by their aspect, smell and packing and that can thus endanger the consumers’ life and health. A draft Government decision to this effect was submitted to the Ministry of Economy for public debates, IPN reports.

The imitations have the same form, smell, color, presentation, packing, label, volume or size as the food products and thus can be put into the mouth, sucked or swollen, especially by children. Consequently, this implies risks of suffocation, poisoning, perforation or stopping up of the digestive tract.

If it is passed and takes effect, the draft Government decision that technically regulates the imitations will ban the sale, import, production and export of such products.

The Consumer Protection Agency will monitor how the decision is implemented. Debates on the draft decision were scheduled for September 5.
