The International Monetray Fund took note of criminal investigation actions involving the National Bank of Moldova and will be closely monitoring developments in this area, says a press line issued by the IMF Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova Volodymyr Tulin, IPN reports.
“In this context, it will be important to safeguard the independence of the NBM, so that the hard-won progress achieved under the IMF-supported program is preserved for the benefit of all Moldovans. We stand ready to support the continuation of the reform process in Moldova,” runs the press line.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office on March 5 carried out criminal investigation measures at the National Bank of Moldova in connection with the bank fraud case. As a result, a current vice governor, a former vice governor and a division head of the Bank were arrested. As part of the same case, the prosecutors charged former governor of the NBM Dorin Drăguțanu.
