The familiarization with the recent economic evolutions and appreciation of performances within the programme supported under the funding mechanism for economic growth, according to the situation in December 2006, as well as the macroeconomic forecasts for 2007, are the aim of the visit in Chisinau of a mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), head of IMF European Department Thomas Richardson stated during a meeting with Premier Vasile Tarlev. According to a press release from the Government, Thomas Richardson said that his visit is aimed to assess the programmes supported under the funding mechanism for economic growth. The subjects that are to be debated within the next IMF official mission to Moldova will be established depending on these assessments. The sides have appreciated the high level of cooperation and reciprocal trust, established with a view to achieving the proposed objectives. “We are satisfied with the fruitful cooperation between the Government and IMF, as well as with the results obtained by Moldova’s leadership in 2006 concerning the overcoming of the economic problems related to the external shocks”, Tomas Richardson mentioned. Prime Minister stated that the Government is willing to put at the disposal of the Mission the necessary information regarding the evolutions in the macroeconomic environment, as well as to further consult IMF’s opinion as concerns the identification of certain adequate actions in implementing the monetary and fiscal policies. The IMF Mission is in Chisinau from 21 to 28 February.
