Prime Minister Maia Sandu, who had today, October 2, a meeting with the IMF Mission in Chisinau, specified that this was a fact-finding mission and that no agreement would be signed now. At the same time, asked by journalists, the prime minister said that following this mission there would be no tax increases. The statements were made after the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, IPN reports.
"In the morning we had a meeting where the members of the Mission informed us about the Board discussions, when the decision was taken to approve the disbursements. They informed us that it was probably the longest discussion they ever had. And this is fine. There is a lot of interest in Washington, at the International Monetary Fund. They especially appreciated the Government's actions to correct the previous Government's bad decisions. And they appreciated the fact that we managed to expedite the process and complete the two reviews," noted the chief of the executive.
Maia Sandu said that "obviously the budget for next year is being discussed". "We have informed them that we are interested in having a budget that is conducive to greater economic growth, which will benefit more citizens. So, we want to have a budget in which investments have a larger share. And in the next days we will discuss these topics,” the prime minister mentioned.
Asked about the tax policy, Maia Sandu said that "the fiscal policy will be discussed together with the business environment, with the civil society in the following days, when the internal discussions on the budget will be concluded".
An IMF staff team, led by Ruben Atoyan, is on a working visit to Chisinau between October 2-8.
