IMF concerned about situation in Moldova’s banking and budgetary sectors

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is concerned about the situation in the banking system and budgetary sector of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Government’s press service. During a meeting with Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanai, the IMF representatives in Chisinau expressed their readiness to identify short-term instruments for improving the situation, the quoted source said. “We are in Chisinau to provide support to Moldova, the International Monetary Fund being earlier a good partner of Moldova. During this visit, we want to reach general agreements before the formal IMF Mission comes in May,” said the Mission’s head Graeme Justice, adding that the IMF has doubled the quotas for the low-income counties, including Moldova. For his part, the Premier said that the Moldovan Government has its own opinion about the methods that should be implemented to overcome the crisis. These methods will be discussed with the IMF experts so that a new joint program could be signed, the communiqué from the Government’s press service says.
