Illiterate children will learn to read and write at Foster Care Center
A class for illiterate children where they will be able to learn to read and write will be opened at the Foster Care Center in Chisinau. The announcement was made on Monday by Svetlana Chifa, head of the municipal department for children’s rights protection, Info-Prim Neo reports.
She said during the City Hall's meeting that in order to improve the Center’s efficiency its Regulation needed to be reviewed and updated.
“I think it’s the right time to tackle the issue of illiterate kids who are not going to school. We had an institution in Solonet, which we used for the placement of kids who had infringed the law. Now, we don’t have any correction center for this category of children. Until we find a solution, it would be a good idea to open a correction service within the Center”, said Svetlana Chifa.
The Foster Care Center was visited by Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca two weeks ago. 14 of the children staying there at that moment couldn’t read or write.
Each year about 1700 kids pass through the Foster Care Center, 400 of them even repeatedly.
