The Border Police, in cooperation with the Cahul Prosecutor's Office, recently dismantled a criminal network that organized the illegal migration of Ukrainian citizens through the Republic of Moldova. The group, which operated in the border area between the localities of Vulcănești and Vinogradovca, facilitated the illegal crossing of the border and legalized the stay of migrants in Moldova, which was used as a transit point to the European Union, IPN reports.
Investigations carried out in March revealed a well-organized scheme through which members of the network recruited people between the ages of 18 and 60.
One of the suspects was caught helping two Ukrainians cross the border illegally, for a sum of €6,000.
Police officers searched the suspect's home, where they found SIM cards, combat cartridges, plant substances with a specific smell, documents and bank cards.
The man was arrested for 72 hours and placed in pre-trial detention for 30 days.
The authorities continue the investigations to identify all the members of the network and hold all of them accountable.
