One month before arrested, Ilie Cazac took out a loan of €500 from a Transnistrian bank to purchase a laptop. As he managed to repay only the first tranche, the bank threatens to sue him, said Ilie's parents who have protested in front of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau since June 12. In a news conference on July 26, the young man's father Alexandr Vinitskii said they received a letter, informing them that Ilie will be sued. “The fact that they want to sue our son who is under arrest is absurd. We contacted the bank and asked that Ilie be allowed to pay the rest of the sum when he is set free. I think officials of the Transnistrian ministry of state security (MGB) do their utmost to jail him,” he said. According to Alexandr Vinitskii, the laptop purchased with those money was confiscated by the MGB together with other things. “So far, we received no document showing that things had been confiscated from out house. In fact, they set traps because they don't like that we are protesting and damaging their image,” he added. Several days ago, Ilie's parents sent a letter to Tiraspol with the help of the OSCE, asking that they be allowed to see their son. Today is the birthday of Ilie's younger brother, who stays alone in Bender. “We phoned and congratulated him, but could not give him a cake as every year. We asked him what present he wants. He said he wants to see his brother,” said the mother of the two young men. Stela Surkichean said it is very hot and they stay outside more than in the tent put up in front of the Russian Embassy. She added she reads the Bible and prays for Ilie. Ilie Cazac was arrested by the Transnistrian security forces on March 19. He is accused of spying for Moldova. His parents went on hunger strike in front of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau on June 12, demanding that Moscow intervene and help release their son.
